Topographical Status of Unnao Industrial Area is of great importance and is congenial for industrial requirement being totally free from any residential vicinity and having availability of roadways, railways and airport lying very close. Banks are also very close and financial institutions like IDBI, PICUP etc. are also available in radius of 40 and 60 kms. (at Kanpur & Lucknow) resp. The Reserve Bank of India is also at a distance of 30 km at Kanpur.

Though the Industries of Unnao are very small, however this Industrial area if taken care of a little by the Govt. of UP, may attract the industrialists and entreprenures of leather as well as other fields increasingly due to the aesthetical and topographical features of this industrial area helping prevention of environmental degradation and enrich upto a great extent being a major issue in present industrial scenario.

Unnao industrial area is having about 50 industries at present comprising mainly of leather industries, and most of them are export oriented units beside all above stated facts and status of industrial area of Unnao, some other developments have taken place with the efforts of Distt. Admn and Udyog Bandhu which are synopsized as under ::

  • Leather industries of Unnao have setup a common effluent treatment plant (CETP) in Oct'95 as per scheme of ministry of environment and forest. Govt of India with the assistance of World Bank, which is treating 20 Lacs Lts. waste water every day. This is the first plant of it's kind in UP, working in private sector efficiently.
  • U.P. directorate of environment has allotted a project to NEERI which is proposed to develop a common facility for the disposal of hazardous waste emerging out from industries after different processing and effluent treatment.

With a view to examine and review the existing regulatory laws, various acts, detrimental in the pace of industrial development, the State Govt. has recently constituted vide G.O. dated 24.07.1998, a high level task force headed by the Principal Secretary, Industral development deptt. and comprising of Principal Secretaries to Govt. of the Deptts. of Finance, Environment, Labour Judiciary, Commissioner trade tax, Labour Commissioner UP, Executive Director State Udyog Bandhu and representatives of Indian Industries Association.

Indian Industries Association is also playing an important and active role in getting solved the ticklish problem being faced by the industries in their day to day works concerned with the Govt. Deptts. and local Administration. The Distt Admnistration is also making best efforts to provide infrastructure facilities in the industral area on top priority.

Mirza Tanners Ltd. is a major supplier of shoes to reputed names in Europe like Bata-Italy, France, Switzerland, Deichmann, Germany & Florsheim Australia, and in U.K. to Olovers, Asda, Barrats Shoefayre, Shoe City, Streads & Simpson. It has Joint Venture Company in U.K. and South Africa. The company is selling branded shoes in the name of Red Tape & Oakridge.

It was originally run on a sole proprietorship basis and became a public limited company in 1994. Presently the company is selling substantial quantities of equestrian goods, casual belts and pet accessories made from Indian buffalo leather to serve the ecnomically priced market segment, and smaller quantities from Imported English Leather to serve the top end of the market.

The Company has recently embarked on a major backward integration project to manufacture high quality vegetable tanned EQUESTRIAN and SOLE leather using Indian buffalo and European/South America hides using imported vegetable tanning extracts.
